The Born to Drum Women’s Drum Camp is a 3-day camp for women and girls 15 and older. Born To Drum 2012 takes place June 29 and 30 and July 1 at Walker Creek Ranch, on 1700 acres in the beautiful rolling hills of Northern California.
This beautiful camp is only an hour’s drive from San Francisco or Oakland via highway 101 and is about 15 minutes from Petaluma. Walker Creek Ranch combines rustic beauty with comfortable accommodations, incredible food, and a caring and helpful staff.
The 7th annual Born To Women’s Drum Camp features an international faculty of women drummers, workshops, concerts, dance, fireside drumming, and cultural exchange in a beautiful setting. There will be a marketplace, organic food, great accommodations, inspiration and FUN!
Whether you are brand new to drumming or have been playing for years, you will find classes that will both support and challenge you. We welcome women new to drumming and have scheduled basic skills classes to help you build a strong foundation. Other classes range from beginning to advanced intermediate, with many all-levels classes.
Accommodations: There is something for everyone in the choice of accommodations — camping; economy cabins; and semi-private lodges and single private rooms in small lodges with lounge and kitchen areas.
There are many camping options — tenting, car camping, motor homes. There are camping spaces very close to bathrooms and showers and classes. For those who prefer more remote areas, there are beautiful spaces further from the central campus.
Food
The food is delicious, with fresh organic vegetables from the Ranch garden supplemented by offerings from local farms. Sample Menu from a previous camp. It’s a .pdf that will download.
Classes and Activities: During the day, you can choose from a variety classes featuring drum, dance, and song from many cultural traditions as well as drum jams and practice sessions. We will also enjoy outdoor activities with swimming at Turtle Pond, a naturalist led hike, special workshops, and time to enjoy our beautiful environment. Evenings are devoted to making music, with drum jams and programs featuring faculty and attendees.
